This is a website developed for the American Paint Horse DHR Melindas D Bar.
After a traumatic life, having been repeatedly bought and sold over a period of many years in Denmark and Germany, he lived a happy life in the Scottish Borders. He was originally born in Minnesota in 1997.
In the meantime you can read a bit more about the history of DHR Melindas D Bar here (his stable name is Sonny).

“Sadly I don’t have good news this time and I am really sorry. We have had to have Sonny put to sleep, the staff are devastated with having to make this decision. After arriving and settling in we started physio with him, unfortunately this showed several areas of lameness. Sonny was referred to a team of vets where he underwent extensive test’s, the main problem was the old injury to his knee and whilst trying to correct it, the vets then identified further lameness and also an underlying laminitic problem. Sonny was a true gentleman and we think that he has been compensating uncomplainingly for a long period and had hidden these other issues.
“We tried everything we could but unfortunately we were unsuccessful even with extensive physio and medication. We have all tried our best and certainly Sonny did too. Sometimes there are underlying problems that until further investigations are carried out we cannot know the true extent of them and sometimes no matter who we are we cannot re build them back up correctly and resolve the problems.
“Sadly Sonny wasn’t comfortable enough even to be re-homed as a companion and following our vets advice; we agreed it would be kinder for Sonny and allow him to go peacefully.
“Sonny was a lovely horse and a true gentleman throughout his time with us. We were all devastated that this decision had to be made; I can assure you that if there was a way to make him comfortable and got him right we would have done this. It’s always difficult with horses like Sonny, he has had a terrible past before finally coming into your loving home. As we have always said, thank god he did come to you, otherwise I can only imagine he would have continued being passed around.
“I’m really sorry that we were unable to get Sonny right, these decisions are never easy for us and even more so with such a dear chap as Sonny.”
Kindest regards
